If you’ve found yourself locked out of your Revolut account and struggling to get your money back, you’re not alone. Many users have faced similar issues, with some waiting weeks or even months for a resolution. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through my personal experience, share what you can do, and provide an alternative to Revolut that I highly recommend.
What Happened?
A few years ago, while traveling, I attempted to withdraw cash from an ATM using my Revolut card. The transaction was declined, and when I tried logging into my account, I was met with a message saying:
"Your account has been blocked. Please contact customer service."
The problem? Revolut doesn’t offer direct customer service via phone.
You can only reach them via email or their in-app chat, which in my experience (and many others) is nearly useless. You’ll typically receive a generic response like:
"Your account is under investigation. Please wait."
After multiple follow-ups, I received the same automated response. My account remained blocked for two weeks, but I’ve heard horror stories of people waiting over a year without any resolution.
What Can You Do?
If your Revolut account has been blocked, here’s what you should do:
1. Identify the Source of Your Funds
Revolut typically returns blocked funds to the original source. Here’s how it works:
If the money came from your employer → It will be returned to them.
If it was a bank transfer from your own account → It should go back to your bank.
If it was from a third party (e.g., cryptocurrency, refunds, PayPal, etc.) → It will go back to that third party.
Some people have never received their money back, especially when funds were deposited through cryptocurrency exchanges or third-party payment platforms.
2. Contact Your Employer or Bank
If your employer originally deposited the funds, reach out to their accounts department and inform them that Revolut will be returning the money. Ask them to transfer it back to your new bank account.
If the funds were from your own bank account, contact your bank and ask them to watch for the incoming transaction from Revolut.
3. Contact Revolut’s Support (Even If It’s Frustrating)
Despite their slow responses, keep emailing Revolut support. Stay professional and demand clarity on:
When the investigation will be completed.
Where your money is being sent.
Any steps you can take to expedite the process.
If Revolut insists that your money is "under review" indefinitely, you might need to escalate the situation.
4. Report to the Financial Services Authority (FSA)
If you’re unable to get your money back, you can file a complaint with the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Revolut is regulated under their supervision, but I have yet to hear of anyone successfully recovering their funds this way. Still, if you’re out of options, it’s worth trying.
5. Beware of Scams
If you’re looking for solutions online, you might come across scammers claiming they can “hack Revolut” and recover your money. DO NOT trust these offers. One scammer named
DarkTools frequently posts in YouTube comments, pretending to help people recover their blocked funds.
If anyone claims they can recover your money for a fee, it’s a scam. Ignore them.
Avoid Revolut – Use This Alternative Instead
After my Revolut disaster, I stopped using them entirely. If you need a reliable digital bank, I highly recommend Wise (formerly TransferWise).
Why Wise?
✅ Reliable – No account freezing issues like Revolut.✅ Customer Service – You can speak to a real person if you have a problem.✅ Best Exchange Rates – Wise offers some of the best currency exchange rates on the market.✅ Backed by Barclays – One of the UK’s most trusted banks.✅ Great for Travelers – Holds multiple currencies and allows direct debits.
I’ve used Wise for over two years, and it’s been flawless. If you’re traveling, working remotely, or handling international transactions, it’s the best option out there.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve had your Revolut account blocked, I understand how frustrating it is. Here’s a quick summary of what to do:
Figure out where your money will be sent back to.
Contact your employer or bank to ensure they receive and process the refund.
Email Revolut repeatedly until they provide a resolution.
Report to the FSA if you’re out of options.
DO NOT fall for scams claiming they can recover your money.
And most importantly… STOP using Revolut.
Switch to Wise instead. It’s safer, more reliable, and offers excellent customer service.
