Here is a Slice of Information

BethIf I have aroused your curiosity, here is the scoop (a la mode perhaps). Our special guest is Beth Howard who is the author of the books mentioned in the previous post. Her parents were close friends with Ron during his Iowa days. Beth lived in the American Gothic house immortalized by Grant Wood’s iconic painting called American Gothic. To recover from the sudden loss of her husband, Beth immersed herself in making pies. She went to professional pie making courses and seminars before launching a career as Ms. American Pie.

Using frequent flier miles she inherited and accumulated, she devised the idea of
“WORLD PIECE: Making pie around the world to promote cultural tolerance, Summer 2015”. You can read more about it on Beth’s website; I love the name. The World Needs More Pie: Give a Piece a Chance. During her journeys, not only has she taught pie making to interested groups, she has also researched the pie culture or whatever is similar, of each country. Another memoir in the works? We can only hope!

Beth is our star guest. Tomorrow, Sunday, August 23rd she will be teaching 8 friends how to professionally make and bake a pie during her pie seminar. Our neighbors will be drooling as the aromas drift into the courtyard. Won’t they be jealous.

Remember if you would like to order a copy of either of Beth’s books, you can easily do so here.

After completing my Ed.D., the frustration of finding a teaching position where I was willing to live, led to Ron and I leaving the country. We intended to travel for a year before settling somewhere in MA or RI. We left the US without any credit card debt, no car payments and our house mortgage paid by renters. We had $10,000 in the bank to make our way through a year.
